Time for “A Movie & A Conversation”

February 20, 2014 (Chesapeake, VA) – In late September 2013, there was a disheartening report on the news about a 12-year-old girl from Florida who had been cyber bullied for an entire year. She eventually changed her Facebook name to "Dead Girl" and sometime later climbed onto a tower and plunged to her death. She was only a year younger than Clara Huff, daughter of Powerhouse Media Group's CEO Feona Sharhran Huff, who has also experienced being bullied.

"As a mom, educator and youth motivator, this hit home for me," says Feona, who is dedicated to the building up today’s youth. "No child should feel that their only recourse to dealing with bullying is to end their life, take the lives of their bully, quit going to school, etc.” That is why Feona is using PMG’s “A Movie & A Conversation” series to screen the documentary “Bully: PG-13 Version” on Saturday, March 1, 2014, from 11 am to 1 pm at the Indian River Public Library (Chesapeake, VA). Admission is $5.
Bully: PG-13 Version”, by filmmaker Lee Hirsch, is a character-driven documentary that follows five youth and their families over the course of a school year. It offers insight into the different facets of America’s bullying crisis. The stories include two families who have lost children to suicide and a mother awaiting the fate of her 14-year-old daughter, who has been incarcerated after bringing a gun on her school bus.

Immediately following the documentary screening, there will be a Q&A discussion led by a panel of community leaders, educators, youth advocates and parents, including Khari Boyd, Keystone Advisor for the Southside Boys & Girls Club, Yolanda Hinton, Author of “Bullying Is Right Underneath Your Nose” and Michael H. Scott, Founder of Parents Coaching Parents Network.

“I am very happy that this documentary screening and discussion is taking place,” says Feona.
“We are losing our youth fast to bullying. I believe that this event will help bring about real solutions so I beckon the community to show up for our kids.”
